作为粤港澳大湾区枢纽大港、全球最大的单体集装箱码头，盐田港海铁联运业务于1996年起步，是国内最早开展海铁联运的港口之一
盐田港通过平盐铁路连接国家主要铁路干线，平盐铁路是深圳港唯一一条将港区和国铁网络无缝连接的海铁联运专用线，平盐铁路省内线及华中线均已实现海铁联运每天发车盐田港区目前已开通23条海铁联运线路，码头功能辐射广大内陆腹地，外贸进出口量多年来一直稳居国内港口前列
